A Voice for Change in Education

Empowering Educators, Combating Antisemitism

About BC Teachers Against Antisemitism (BCTAA)

For more than a decade, BCTAA has been a dedicated group of educators committed to combating antisemitism and anti-Israel propaganda within British Columbia’s educational institutions and teachers’ unions. Our members, spanning various regions of the province, actively address and challenge antisemitic motions and publications that surface in union meetings and educational materials.

In the aftermath of the events on October 7, 2023, there has been a surge in antisemitic incidents across Canada, including within our K-12 education system in B.C.. This alarming trend has left many Jewish educators, students, and their allies feeling marginalized and unsafe.

BCTAA stands as a pillar of support for teachers, offering guidance on confronting antisemitism, whether it arises from students, educators, or institutions. We also encourage and assist educators in engaging with their unions at all levels to ensure their voices are heard.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to expose, oppose, and end antisemitism in all its forms within British Columbia’s schools and all levels of our union, the BC Teachers’ Federation. We are teachers united in our efforts to oppose antisemitism whenever and wherever it occurs.

Our vision is an educational landscape in British Columbia where every student and educator, regardless of their background, feels safe, respected, and valued. We aspire to foster a culture of inclusivity and understanding, ensuring that antisemitism and all forms of hate have no place in our schools or unions.

Through proactive engagement, education, and advocacy, BCTAA is dedicated to building a future where antisemitism is no longer ignored, dismissed or allowed to fester in K-12 education.
